Light and Shadow - ε γ¨ε½± -
Rhythms in shadows
The two paintings in this project were inspired by shadows in the woods. They went through multiple stages with an increased level of abstraction and diverted into two directions - land and water. Starting from the landscape of woods and ending up with one of them suggesting water surface may be puzzling but in essence, what I focused on was βRhythms in Shadowsβ.
Elements
My paintings evolved from abstracting landscapes to using various elements of nature as a starting point. An encounter with black and white photographs by Michael Kenna triggered this change. I am still preoccupied with shapes and colours in nature that keep changing, but now tend to see them in a more micro view.
FRAGMENTS OF LIGHT
Being away from acrylic paint for nearly a year experimenting on more natural painting mediums, I was itching to go back to the creative process in which painting itself is central, not the investigation. And when I returned to acrylic painting, I thought βYes, this is what I was missing so much!β.
I felt that these semi-abstract landscapes were the beginning of something new.
