The joy of painting
In September, I finally went back to Acrylic, after about 8 months of experimentation with pigments and natural binders. I don’t regret spending time on exploring some new materials and techniques, but I was itching to paint for the joy of painting, not expanding my skill sets and knowledge base.
And so, I painted this.
Fragment of light I, Acrylic and graphite on canvas, 100x75cm
It felt amazing. I was unsure where the painting was going but it was a familiar process. It’s akin to exploring a maze - finding yourself in a cul-de-sac and tracing back for another potential way out. You progress slowly or go back to the starting point.
The grid idea came to my mind in the middle of the night. It’s not unusual as my mind probably keeps trying to find a way out even when I’m asleep. It may sound a little obsessive but that’s part of the joy of painting - for me, at least.
This painting later developed into the ‘Fragments of light’ series.
