Gallery visit - May: Pete Monaghan at Ffin y Parc, Nr Conwy (Virtual Gallery)
I nearly missed posting the gallary visit for May. The online exhibition I visited was of Pete Monaghan, who previously had a studio next to ours at the Old College (sob). While I was busy finishing off the assignments - now all submitted online - his exhibition ended. Sorry Pete. I had a good look at his work on video (still available https://welshart.net/exhibitions/113/video/) and was interested that he had included several paintings that were slightly different to his signature style. He paints Welsh vernacular buildings in mixed media, normally from a lower view point, but this time I saw a couple viewed from quite a high position. Also there were a couple of boat paintings and those depicting daisies in a glass jar. As a viewer, it is interesting to see a range of work but I imagine that it must be hard to decide how and at which exhibition to include something new or a little different from the proven style. However, when I saw the exhibition second time around, I saw many red dots. I’m very happy for Pete that it went well, as it must have been awfully stressful when your exhibition suddenly changed its format from physical to virtual. I also think it’s great that the gallery’s virtual exhibitions seem to be working well.
Ffin y Parc are showing Katie Allen’s paintings at the moment.
And, when the gallery opens its doors and start operating as before, it’s worth a visit to enjoy art ……. and their lovely cakes. https://welshart.net/
