Gallery visit - April: Virtual art gallery tours
Guggenheim Bilbao
So, the lockdown means no gallery visit this month, and probably next month, too. My new year resolution was unusually going well until March and so it’s disappointing.
But then I saw an article on the Guardian titled ‘10 of the world’s best virtual museum and art gallery tours’. And so I decided to give it a go. So far, I’ve tried Guggenheim Bilbao, Rijks Museum and Musée d’Orsay. I knew their websites would be useful resources for us to enjoy art or to carry out a research. But what I was unaware of was that many of them use ‘Museum View’ platform offered by Google Arts and Culture, which allows you to enjoy a virtual tour of the museum. It’s useful tool to have a view of particular artworks in close up, but their ‘street view’ used inside the buildings makes me feel dizzy. Hmmm.
What I enjoyed most was the Guggenheim’s video project called ‘Bending Gravity’ by an urban photographer capturing a free-runner defying the gravity in and around the amazing archetecture by Frank Gehry. Although the video isn’t new and the website offers a lot more to see, it works as a great gate way to start the tour as the architecture is such an important part of Guggenheim.
Highly recommended. https://artsandculture.google.com/project/guggenheim-bilbao
