Gallery Visit - March: 'Another Line to Follow'
My new year’s resolution was to visit at least one exhibition every month. And I am keeping to that plan. In January, I had a day trip to London to see Bridget Riley at Hayward Gallery and in February, saw Gareth Grifitth in at Oriel Davies in Newtown.
But the latest visit was actually at the Gallery at the School of Art. The artists include my tutor, June, are all connected to Aberystwyth University, and share the common interest in abstraction.
I had seen some of the artists’ work but not all and it’s wornderful to be able to see them in real, and to visit as often as I want for the whole two months!
I’m intrigued and inspired to see how they created work based on the ‘direct response to each other’s artwork’. The conceptual ‘line’ they followed highlighted each artist’s subtly different approach to abstracting landscape. This exhibition offers so much to me as I, too, am grappling with the challenge of abstracting nature. (Open until 1 May)
